Cloud & Connectivity

Security that follows your team, not just your office.

Your team works from home, from client sites and from the kitchen table — but the firewall stayed in the office. I set up secure remote working that travels with every device, give you honest advice on your broadband, and help you pick cloud apps that fit how you actually work.

The problem

A firewall in the office only protects the office.

It is the quiet status quo for a lot of small businesses: a box guarding a room that half the team no longer sits in full-time. Here's why that leaves gaps.

A firewall protects a place, not your people

The box in your office guards the office. The moment someone works from home, a cafe or a client site, they are outside it entirely.

Remote staff go straight out to the internet

Unless every device is deliberately routed through protection, most home and hybrid working happens with nothing at all sat between your team and the web.

A VPN nobody switches on protects nobody

Older remote-access VPNs are manual and only cover traffic to your own systems. Everyday browsing skips them, and half the time they are never turned on.

What's included

One layer of protection, wherever people are working.

Every device gets routed through the same managed protection, and your office keeps the firewall it already has. I set it up, run it and keep an eye on it.

Always-on, forced-tunnel VPN

A lightweight client connects the moment a laptop or phone is on. Nobody has to remember it, and it stays on rather than waiting to be switched on.

Cloud-delivered firewall

Traffic from every device is routed through the same managed firewall, with content filtering and threat blocking — at home, in the office or on the move.

Your office firewall stays put

I do not ask you to rip out kit that still has a job. On site it keeps handling your local network, IoT devices and guest wifi, and holds the fort if the link drops.

Kill-switch by default

If the secure tunnel cannot be established, the device is blocked rather than quietly let out unprotected. There is no window where protection is silently off.

Straight talk on broadband

Honest advice on the connection and router your business actually needs — and on where paying more genuinely helps, rather than where it just sounds better.

Cloud apps that fit your team

Help choosing and setting up the Microsoft 365 and cloud tools that suit how a small team really works, without paying for licences you will never use.

Who it's for

Built for small teams, not corporate IT departments.

The big platforms are powerful, but they are scoped and priced for larger headcounts with an IT team to run them. This is the same idea, sized for a handful of people in Lancashire and the North West — and run for you, not handed to you.

Small teams whose staff regularly work away from the office
Businesses split across more than one site or working from home
Firms asked awkward questions by cyber insurers or larger clients
Anyone still relying on one ageing firewall to protect a team that has moved on

FAQ

Common questions

Does this replace the firewall in my office?+

No, and I would not want it to. The firewall on site keeps an important job: separating your local network, protecting printers, cameras and other unmanaged kit, running guest wifi, and keeping the office protected if the connection to the cloud platform is briefly interrupted. The cloud firewall and the always-on VPN add protection that travels with each device instead. The two work together.

How is this different from the VPN I already have?+

Two things. First, it is always on rather than connect-when-you-remember, so protection does not depend on staff turning it on. Second, all of the traffic from a device goes through the firewall, not just traffic heading to your own systems. A typical remote-access VPN is manual and only covers part of the picture, so most everyday browsing bypasses it completely.

What happens if a laptop loses its connection — are we exposed?+

No. The client fails closed: if the secure tunnel cannot be established, the traffic from that device is blocked rather than allowed out unprotected. Protection is on by default and stays on, so there is no quiet gap while someone is on hotel wifi or tethering to a phone.

Will it slow everyone down?+

For normal small-business work — email, Microsoft 365, browsing, video calls — you should not notice it day to day. If something specific does misbehave, tell me and I will look at it properly rather than shrugging; it is my job to make the protection something your team forgets is there.

Can you help with our broadband and router as well?+

Yes. I will look at what you have, tell you plainly whether it is holding you back, and help you choose a connection and router that suit the size of your team. I have no interest in selling you more bandwidth than you need — the aim is a setup that just works and that you are not overpaying for.

Take your protection with you.

I'll get every laptop and phone routing through the same managed protection, leave your office firewall doing its job, and sort out the broadband and cloud apps around it — so working from anywhere is as safe as working from your desk.
